Lekkerland
Installation, 2025 -
Lekkerland is an archive, a collection that maps the food chain supply industry in the Netherlands through the boxes used by distribution, and in some cases also production, companies of the goods that can be bought in restaurants and supermarkets. The action of unfolding the box allows not only to reconceptualise its polyhedral shape but, also, a ‘dewarholification’ of it. These objects are not ‘precise copies of commercial packaging’, in fact, they are boxes which in their previous usage were carrying food all across the globe. The labour and manipulation inflicted to them is visible through the many traces left on their surface. They are not only a mere aesthetical objects, they are a primary source of information.
The installation revolves in the nonseasonal food economy and its implication in an extractive global commerce. Each box contains the data of the origin of the carried products, their variety, the distribution company information and its branding, the manufacturer of the box itself but never the conditions of the workers or the place where it was harvest or produced. The few cases are from bio or fair trade brands constantly challenged by a system that prioritizes corporate profit.
