Exhausted clouds
Installation, 2024
‘Exhausted clouds’ focuses on the physical representation of pollution. Principally air contamination that is suspended over the in-between spaces around the big cities due to a heavy automotive culture and lack of reliable public transport services, that is united the creation of industrial parks and complex processes of gentrification, suburbanization, massification and expansion of the economic activities of the cities that absorbs the nearby small cities, villages and territories.
The site-specific installation comprises a variable of bedsheets that were painted with contaminating agents founded in scavenged hubcaps, tires, wheels, exhausted pipes, filters, etc., laying in highways, roads and other streets that connect the city centre with the outs squirts and the working places with the residential neighbourhoods. The pollution was extracted by water dissolution and using action-painting approaches to apply it on the bedsheets.
Hanging the bedsheets as a drying laundry refers to a frequent situation that many ‘madrileños’ that live between the M-30 and M-40 suffer daily by having to do so over some of the most polluting roads of Europe.
